Facilities

PBSci Facilities provides administrative facility support and services to the Division of Physical and Biological Sciences, in areas such as:

If you report a facility or safety related issue to a central (campus) unit such as the Physical PlantEnvironmental Health & Safety or Risk Services, please also notify the PBSci Work Order Desk so that Facilities staff stay informed about issues/problems that affect PBSci buildings and to ensure follow-up services are completed appropriately.

Academic Personnel/ Payroll

The Physical and Biological Sciences Academic Personnel Payroll Team provides consultation and services for recruitments, appointments, advancements, leaves, visas, payroll, and time and attendance in support of faculty, researchers, postdoctoral scholars, teaching assistants, graduate student researchers, readers, and tutors. In addition they serve as the division liaison with Staff Human Resources.

Research Administration

Research Administration works closely with principal investigators, the Office of Sponsored Projects, and Extramural Funds Accounting to provide overall administrative support including, but not limited to, the following functions.

  • Reviewing and approving all transactions involving the commitment of contracts and grants funds.
  • Providing detailed financial reports and projections to principle investigators.
  • Consulting with principal investigators to determine how best to meet their changing financial needs.
  • Ensuring that all transactions are in accordance with terms and conditions of the award and with university policy.
  • Reviewing and tracking cost sharing and/or matching fund commitments set forth in the proposal and making recommendations to the Dean; providing cost-sharing information to Extramural Funds for reporting purposes.
  • Assisting with the closing of contracts and grants.

Office of Sponsored Projects (Grants Administration)

The Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) facilitates institutional approval for all proposal submissions, accepts and administers grant awards, and negotiates contracts and other research-related agreements for UC Santa Cruz on behalf of The Regents of the University of California.
